Casual Technician - Animal Nutrition

The Role and Opportunity

 

The Animal Nutrition and Physiology (‘ANP’) Team at AgResearch Grasslands are looking for two casual Technicians to join the team. We are hoping to find candidates that are available as soon as possible.

The ANP team operate the NZ Ruminant Methane Measurement Centre and much of our research is focussed on methane mitigation, but we also conduct ruminant nutrition studies, including the early life nutrition of calves and sheep.

Working with us, you will gain valuable experience in a research setting, learn research techniques (as appropriate) and have the opportunity to network within our team and the wider AgResearch community.

What You will be Doing

 

You will be providing technical support to research projects primarily in the areas of early life nutrition and methane mitigation, as directed by our project Technicians or Research Associates.  Tasks will include assistance with feed preparation, animal handling, cleaning and maintenance of equipment, animal health monitoring, data entry, and participating in team and project meetings as required.

Your Ideal Background

  • A diploma or bachelor’s qualification in animal science or agriculture (or working towards completion of a qualification) or relevant industry experience.
  • Experience working in an environment that requires an understanding of Health & Safety requirements when handling materials and substances that may be hazardous.
  • Proficient computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience in large animal handling and husbandry.
  • An eye for detail and stamina to complete repetitive and routine tasks to a high degree of quality.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work weekends.
  • Team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven track record of implementing an assigned work plan.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision as and when required.
  • Knowledge and interest in New Zealand pastoral agriculture industries.
  • Ability to complete repetitive and routine tasks to a high degree of quality.
