Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role

 

Invermay Farm is a busy research farm conducting many trials involving sheep, deer and cattle. Due to internal promotion, we are looking for a highly motivated individual who is enthusiastic and passionate about the farming industry to join the farm team of 5 on a permanent basis.

 

Reporting to the Research Farm Manager - Invermay, this position is based at our Invermay Campus in Mosgiel, Dunedin. The farm team works closely with science teams, supporting each other to provide services to science in the management and implementation of research trials. 

 

The General Farm Worker will complete general farm duties including assistance with livestock management, lambing, sheep, deer and cattle trial work. They will assist with field servicing of experiments to ensure trials are implemented according to design protocol and that field resources are maintained to a functional standard, supporting the effective delivery of operational farm activities in line with trial plans and good farming practice.

 

  • General farm duties including assistance with livestock management - sheep, deer and cattle trial work as required.
  • Intensive lambing – including the completion of fully recorded lambing events.
  • Working with Science to support research goals.
  • General maintenance on the farm, including weed spraying, pasture topping, and repairing fencing.

Ōpūmanawa | About you

 

  • 2+ years previous farm experience, including good working knowledge of animal health, stock handling and recording, experience with TruTest an advantage.
  • Experienced with fully recorded lambing beats or willingness to learn
  • Current full drivers’ licence.
  • A keen, motivated attitude, along with good communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously while being part of a collaborative team.
  • Demonstrates safe workplace behaviour by taking all practicable steps to ensure own and other’s safety in the workplace.
