Lead the Marketing and Communications Strategy for New Zealand’s Ag Emissions Centre.

The Ag Emissions Centre plays a critical role in New Zealand’s efforts to reduce agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. We shape, fund, and manage a national research and development portfolio, build capability and infrastructure, and forge partnerships across government, iwi, industry, and international collaborators to deliver real-world solutions for farmers and growers.

We are looking for a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Head of Communications and Marketing to join our team in Palmerston North.

Ōpūmanawa | About you

You’ll be a skilled communicator with a sharp editorial eye and the ability to craft engaging content across a range of formats. Your core purpose will be to bring the Centre’s mission to life — showcasing how our programmes support the reduction of agricultural emissions and contribute to a more sustainable future for New Zealand’s primary industries.

You’ll have the confidence and capability to translate complex science and research into clear, compelling narratives that inform, inspire, and connect with diverse audiences. From media liaison and digital storytelling to campaign strategy and stakeholder engagement, this role offers variety, challenge, and impact.

You’ll also play a key role in leading communications around major events — including our annual conference and national Field Days — where your ability to reflect, evaluate, and continuously improve will help shape how we engage with the sector year after year.

Education and qualifications, capability and experience:

  • A tertiary qualification in Marketing and Communications or relevant experience (5-10 years in science/technical communications).
  • Experience managing crisis communications or sensitive messaging.
  • Word-wizard: strong writing and editing skills across formats: speeches, opinion pieces, social posts, web and internal communications.
