The Role and Opportunity
As the Seed Legumes Nursery Assistant, you will work closely with our current Legumes Nursery Manager to manage and oversee our seed production processes, including cage isolations, parental screenings, and seed yield trials. This role is designed to provide you with the experience and knowledge needed to eventually take on the Legumes Nursery Manager position.
There will also be opportunities to assist with other work around the farm, such as irrigation, plant propagation, tiller testing for endophytes and data collection.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the management of cage isolations, including the handling of red clover and white clover lines.
- Monitor and manage plant health, including the application of insecticides and other necessary treatments.
- Oversee pollination processes, including the management of honeybee hives.
- Assist in harvesting processes, including desiccation, seed collection, yield measurement, and seed dressing operations.
- Participate in parental screenings and field trials, including data collection on plant characteristics, disease resistance, and seed yield.
- Collaborate with plant breeders to prepare for future cage increases and seed production trials.
- Manage irrigation schedules and ensure optimal growing conditions.

Requirements:
- Teamwork is essential in our operation. Communication skills and a collaborative attitude are the key to success.
- Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science, Plant Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field. Or related experience in seed production or plant breeding, with a focus on clover or other legumes preferred.
- Strong understanding of plant health management, including insecticide application and pollination.
- Experience with data collection and analysis in agricultural settings.
- Able to work some longer hours when required during harvesting and seed processing, especially over the summer period.
- Physically capable and willing to work outdoors, with exposure to pollen and variable weather.
