The role and opportunity  

 

The NZAGRC aims to discover, develop, and make available practical and cost-effective technologies and practices for New Zealand farmers and growers to reduce agricultural greenhouse gas emissions.  We are a core component of the Centre for Climate Action on Agricultural Emissions and a key part of the Government’s approach to reducing agricultural emissions. In delivering to our vision and objectives we work with research organisations, government, Māori, the agri-industry, and farmers. 

 

We shape, fund and facilitate research that is undertaken collaboratively and responds to Aotearoa New Zealand’s unique farm systems and environments. We also invest in and manage overseas projects within New Zealand’s aid and global partnerships as part of New Zealand’s commitment to the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases. 

 

We are looking for an original and critical thinker who can help fuse ideas from different disciplines and perspectives to develop a diverse and impactful portfolio of investments. You will have demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with key stakeholders and work with them to help ensure that the contracted science programmes are delivering to expectations.

 

Job Title: Senior Science Advisor/Science Advisor

Location: Palmerston North, New Zealand 

Minimum and maximum base salary: $102,589 - $144,343 

Minimum guaranteed hours work per week: 40 

Days Required: Monday to Friday 

Number of Positions: One 

Employment Type: Fixed term fulltime

What you will be doing 

 

This position is fixed term in nature until June 2026 to align with our current international funding.

 

Reporting to the Principal Scientist Lead you will support the NZAGRC science team in the provision of advice on the strategic direction of the NZAGRC’s domestic and international investment portfolio, help develop individual research projects that deliver to the NZAGRC Science Plan and international programmes funded by MPI in support of the Global Research Alliance, engage with contract managers and services team to assist in the contracting, monitoring, and reporting of national and international projects and contribute to the preparation and delivery of technical and communication and marketing material.

Education and qualifications

 

  • A relevant post-graduate tertiary qualification (PhD) is essential.

 

Capabilities and Experience

 

  • Previous experience (3-5 years) in an area of science with a knowledge of or demonstrated interest in agricultural greenhouse gas issues is essential.
  • Experience and or familiarity with the development, monitoring, and administration of research contracts and research outputs.
  • Experience in the application of scientific and technical knowledge for the development of applied solutions.
  • A high degree of critical thinking skills and the ability to fuse ideas from different disciplines and perspectives.
